Remember two weeks ago when my Darling donated a bunch of shirts to the Get Rid Of pile? One of the shirts was a huge plaid oxford shirt that I had never seen on him and seemed too good to cut up. On the other hand, it was too awful to wear. The plaid was too bright and too big and the fabric too crisp. But, it was well made. In short, it was an example unwearable good quality
I put it on the porch with stuff to donate, then brought it back in the house. Then one night during a dream I had an exciting vision. I would make an apron with it! I would cut off the sleeves and all of the back leaving only the collar as a neck band to hold up the front! Amazing!
Upon reaching a clearer state of consciousness, I realized that following my dream's vision would lead to truly nightmarish consequences. But, yes it could be transformed into an apron. I have been thinking of different ways to make aprons and this was a perfect way to experiment without having to cut into new fabric. Not surprisingly, I am even happier with the result than I was in my dream.
One fun thing about the apron is that you can unbutton the bottom, should you want to shield each leg individually. This could come in handy, I'm not sure how. Perhaps if you are a potter stradling a potter's wheel or a gardener? (Then the completely inappropriate ruffles could then be omitted.)
Anyway, I made directions in the side bar. I got a little excited to see how it would all come out as I entered into the ruffle phase and stopped taking photos, but the idea is there.
You may have noticed that I have a new model. I currently call her "Madame" after the dress form in one of my favorite children's books The Moffits. Her skin has faded to a very unattractive turquoise color and her figure is a bit too svelte. I guess my next project should be to pad her bottom to a more realistic size and shape and recover her. Her personality is still emerging, but I find her accommodating nature quite a relief. Here she is both modeling and helping with dinner.
I think she's going to be real fun gal.
